How To Turn Your Receipts Into Cash and Gift Cards!

 

Have a lot of receipts🧾 lying around, stuffed in your wallet or purse👝, or in that catch-all drawer at home? Then let’s put them to use and turn them into cash 💵 or gift cards 💳 you can use!

Receipt scanning apps are a great way to earn cash and gift cards by simply scanning your receipts you have lying around (and can get from family and friends too). It's also a great way to document/store receipts digitally in case you ever need to refer back to them (I've even printed out the scan to use for a return). Here are my go to apps that I use on the regular:

  1. Shopkick: You can earn points (called “kicks”) by walking into partner stores, scanning designated products while shopping, submitting receipts, or shopping with your linked debit or credit card. You can redeem your kicks for gift cards to popular retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

  2. Ibotta: This app enables you to earn cash back at more than 750 brick-and-mortar and online stores, including Ace Hardware, Petco, Walmart, and Target. Once you download the app, look for offers from your favorite brands. Scan your receipt or sync Ibotta to your retail loyalty cards to automatically activate cash back. Within 24 hours, you’ll get cash in your bank account.

  3. Receipt Hog: You can earn coins by scanning receipts from grocery stores, supercenters, club stores, dollar stores, drugstores, and convenience stores. You can redeem your coins for cash via PayPal or Amazon gift cards.

  4. CoinOut: This app allows you to upload receipts from any store and earn cash back. You can redeem your coins for cash via PayPal or Amazon gift cards. You can also earn cash back by shopping online through the app.

  5. Receipt Pal: You can earn points by scanning receipts from grocery stores, supercenters, club stores, dollar stores, drugstores, and convenience stores. You can redeem your points for gift cards to popular retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

  6. Microsoft Start: This app allows you to earn Microsoft Rewards points by browsing the web (earn more by searching on Bing), taking quizzes, polls, and completing other activities. You can redeem your points for gift cards to popular retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart. *Tip: Setup Bing Rewards on two (or more) accounts, such as your spouse's phone/computer, to earn more!

  7. Fetch: This app enables you to upload paper or digital receipts and earn points you can redeem for gift cards. The app offers a “special deals” section, which lists options that earn you more points.

To get started, download the apps of your choice and start scanning your receipts (don't forget to enter in the respective referral code for a bonus after scanning your first receipt). You can earn cash and gift cards by simply scanning your receipts from your everyday purchases. Each one of these apps by themselves won't pay out that much, but combining them together to scan the same receipts across the apps helps to stack up and stagger out the rewards and increase your payout frequency.
